Nervous tissues are derived from the ectoderm and eventually form all central nervous system (CNS) and peripheral nervous system (PNS) tissues of the adult animal. The vertebrate embryo is formed by three layers of cells-the ectoderm (outermost layer), the mesoderm (middle layer), and the endoderm (innermost layer).
